Compared to last year, 7,000 more tourists visited Maldives this January

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have increased by more than 7,000 compared to the same period last year, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism.

This reflects a 3.9 percent rise in arrivals compared to January 2025.

The Ministry’s Weekly Statistics Report shows that 200,801 tourists visited the Maldives as of Wednesday. During the same period last year, the country recorded 193,174 arrivals.

Resorts accounted for the majority of visitors, receiving 68.8 percent of tourists. Guesthouses welcomed 26.4 percent, while hotels accounted for 2.7 percent of arrivals.

Russia remains the top source market so far this year, followed by Italy and China. The United Kingdom ranked fourth, and Germany fifth.

The government has forecast that 2.4 million tourists will visit the Maldives in 2026.
