Education Ministry states they have facilitated the transfer of over 1,500 students from atolls to Male’ area schools for the new academic year, which is set to begin next Tuesday.
According to statistics disclosed by the Ministry on Wednesday, most students were transferred to schools in Hulhumale’. In this regard, 753 students from atolls were transferred to schools in Hulhumale’. Meanwhile, 694 students from atolls were transferred to schools in capital Male’.
Alongside 83 students transferred to Vilimale’, a total of 1,530 students from atolls were transferred to Male’ area schools.
A total of 1,748 students were enrolled in first grade at schools in the Malé area, while 3,042 students from the atolls were enrolled in first grade at island schools.
With preparations underway to reopen schools for a new academic year next Tuesday, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has expressed confidence that books will be disbursed to all schools prior to this.
Schools closed for a one-month and one-day holiday on December 25th.
Teachers will return to work two days before students, on January 25th.
According to Education Ministry, at the start of the last academic year, there were some 84,000 students enrolled in schools across the Maldives and some 11,000 teachers working in schools, some 10,000 of whom are working in public schools.
