National weather forecasting body, Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has warned of rough seas and thunderstorms across the Maldives on Friday night.
The weather alert is in effect until 6:00am on Saturday morning.
In this regard, Met Office states scatted showers and thunderstorms are expected across Maldives, with few heavy showers across central and southern atolls.
Met Office has forecasted winds of eight to 18 miles in southern atolls from north and northeasterly direction and winds of 13 miles to 23 miles elsewhere from northeast and easterly direction. Winds may gust up to 40 miles per hour during showers.
Seas will be rough in central and northern atolls. While seas will be moderate in southern atolls, they will become rough during showers.
Wave height will be at three to six feet in southern atolls and four to seven feet elsewhere.
According to Met Office, northern and central atolls will experience bad weather conditions up until Monday, while bad weather conditions will prevail in southern atolls even after Monday.
