The lane from Male' to Hulhumale' will be closed on Monday night for maintenance work on the Sinamale' Bridge, police have announced.

According to a post by Maldives Police on X, the north lane of the bridge, which connects Male' to Hulhumale', will be closed from 23:45 hrs on December 15, until the repairs are completed.

Traffic flow will be altered during the closure. As per the chart released by police, the south lane, which normally carries traffic from Hulhumale' to Male', will be converted into a two-way lane to accommodate vehicles traveling in both directions.

The Sinamale' Bridge has undergone multiple rounds of maintenance since its opening. The repair works are being carried out by China Communication Construction Company (CCCC), the Chinese firm that originally built the bridge.

In 2024, China agreed to fund repairs for an additional three years under a free grant, continuing the partnership with CCCC.

The Sinamale' Bridge, a USD 200 million project, was officially inaugurated on August 30, 2018, and remains a vital link between the capital and its satellite islands.
