The next year’s state budget will be utilized to fulfil the remaining pledges I have made, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

President Muizzu, who is on a two-day tour of islands in Lh. Atoll and K. Atoll, made the comment during a visit to Lh. Olhuvelifushi.

Addressing a rally in Olhuvelifushi in the morning, President Muizzu said that his administration will be submitting the proposed state budget for next year this week.

He said that the administration will be allocating funds from the budget to fulfil the pledges he has yet to fulfill.

“We will be making allocations in next year’s budget for projects we signed and initiated practical works on this year, and towards the fulfillment of the rest of pledges,” he said.

President Muizzu said that he plans on carrying out practical works on promised projects over two years.

He also spoke about the plans to abolish atoll councils.

He said that once atoll councils are abolished, the state funds that would have gone to atoll councils will be channeled to local councils, under the stipulation that they utilize it towards providing aid to individuals who need social protection.

Information shared by the Finance Ministry shows the state spent just MVR 4 billion on Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP) projects this year – marking a decline of MVR 5.6 billion from last year.
