President appoints four new members to National Integrity Commission

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed four members to the National Integrity Commission (NIC).

The appointments were made on Sunday, October 26, and include:

  • Uz Shuaib Abdul Rahman

  • Uz Shifaz Ali

  • Ali Mohamed Manik

  • Fathimath Shareef

These appointments follow the expiry of terms for four previous members:

  • Commission President Qasim Abdul Kareem

  • Vice President Ashiyath Shiuna

  • Member Shuaib Abdul Rahman

  • Member Aminath Shadia

All four outgoing members were appointed on October 26, 2020, during the previous administration. The nomination process for new members was opened by the President’s Office on August 20, 2024, and closed last month.

The NIC comprises five members, each serving a five-year term. Maryam Insha Faisal, appointed on December 16, 2024, remains on the commission.

The NIC is mandated to oversee law enforcement agencies and personnel, investigate misconduct, and enforce the provisions of the National Integrity Commission Act. It holds the authority to initiate investigations independently and take action against illegal activities committed by law enforcement bodies.
