President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Tuesday, has appointed Uz. Mohamed Mujthaz who is currently serving as the vice president of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) as the president of the Commission and Mohamed Nasih, who headed the commission until his previous term expired earlier in September, as the vice president.

The appointments were made pursuant to  Article 17(b) of the Civil Service Act.

Parliament approved their appointments during an extraordinary sitting on Monday. Mujthaz secured approval with a unanimous vote of 68, while Nasih passed the floor vote with a majority vote of 64-1.

A former parliamentary representative for Hanimaadhoo constituency, Mujthaz was appointed to the CSC on April 20, and as the commission’s vice president a little over a week later, on April 30.

Meanwhile, Nasih, who most recently served as president of the CSC, was reappointed to the commission for a second term on September 7.

Notably, a no-confidence motion was initiated against Nasih last November after accusing him of attempting to gain undue personal benefits. While the Independent Institution Committee voted to dismiss him, he was saved by a floor vote.
