The domestic airport in Sh. Funadhoo reopened on Saturday afternoon, after a technical issue involving a fire truck forced the airport to temporarily close for a couple of hours during the busy Eid holidays.
The closure of the airport had amid the Eid al-Adha holidays, as scores of people travel domestically for the five-day public holiday.
It forced the national airline, Maldivian, which operates three weekly flights to Funadhoo, to cancel scheduled flights to the island, and arrange alternative travel options for affected passengers.
Funadhoo Council’s president Ahmed Ibrahim Fulhu told Sun in the morning that the airport was closed due to an issue with the fire truck at the airport, which needs to be on standby when planes land at the airport.
Later in the afternoon, the Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL), which manages the domestic airport, announced that the Funadhoo Airport has reopened after fixing the issue with the fire truck.
We are pleased to inform that Funadhoo Airport (FND) has resumed normal operations following the successful resolution of a technical issue involving a fire vehicle,” announced RACL.
