JSC seeks SC judges to fill vacancies

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced seeking justices for the Supreme Court following the dismissal of two of the top court’s judges.

Two out of the seven seats of the Supreme Court’s bench became vacant after the Maldives Parliament, acting on the advice of JSC, on Wednesday last week removed Justices Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali Zahir from the bench.

Eligibility criteria:

• Should be a Muslim belonging to a Sunnah sects
• Should have a sound mind
• Should not be holding office for an elected position in accordance with the Constitution or relevant legislation
• Should not be a member of, or taking part in the activities of a political party
• Should not have been convicted of a criminal offence, including fraud or bribery
• Should not have been convicted of any criminal offences prescribed in the Maldives Penal Code, including sexual misconduct or terrorism and had not served a sentence in the last seven years
• Must be acting in compliance with settling any outstanding and proven debts
• Should not be serving a sentence for a criminal offence
• Should be 30 years of age or above
• Must have a First Degree in Islamic Shariah or Law
• Should have experience as a judge or an attorney for no less than seven years

Interested applicants should submit the following documents:

• Curriculum Vitae
• Accredited copies of academic certificates with transcripts
• Supporting documents confirming employment in the legal profession (must include the organization, designation and the duration of employment or work)
• A copy of the attorney’s license
• One passport-sized photo
• Copy of the national identity card

The application window is open until 12:00hrs of Thursday this week. Interested applicants must submit their documents either through Fahires Portal of JSC, or submit hard copies to the commission’s counter.
