A serious accident took place in Kulhudhuffushi City on Wednesday when a police car crashed into a motorbike carrying a child passenger.
According to CCTV footage viral on social media, the accident took place at 15:50pm on Wednesday evening.
The video captures a woman slowly steering her motorbike onto a narrow road while holding a child passenger in front of her, without using a child safety belt. Just as she begins to make the turn, a speeding police car approaches from the opposite direction and crashes into the motorbike.
Both the woman and the child are thrown down from the motorbike upon impact. She hurriedly gathers herself and then picks up the child – moving towards the side of the road. Two police officers are seen exiting the car and heading towards the woman and the child to offer assistance.
Police said the collision between a police car traveling west to east along Fareedhee Magu in Kulhudhuffushi City and a motorbike entering Fareedhee Magu from Thuhuthu Goalhi was reported at approximately 16:12pm on Wednesday evening.
Although no one was injured in the accident, both vehicles recorded damage.
Police noted that both drivers held valid licenses. They also confirmed that a one-year-old child was a passenger on the motorbike at the time of the accident.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
