Ahmed Faseeh.
Former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh was appointed as Controller General of Immigration on early Friday, mere hours after the former head of Immigration, Mohamed Shamaan Waheed was dismissed from the role following allegations of corruption.
Heena Waleed, the chief spokesperson at the President’s Office, announced Faseeh’s appointment in a post on X on early Friday.
“The President of the Republic has appointed Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Faseeh to the role of Controller General of Immigration at state minister-level,” she announced.

Faseeh served as the Commissioner of Police during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration. He retired in 2012 a 23-year career in police. In 2022, he was appointed as a member of the Police Board.
Faseeh’s predecessor, Shamaan was fired on Thursday night following allegations he misused his authority to gain undue benefits from expatriates.
Shamaan was appointed as Controller General of Immigration on November 19, 2023 – two days after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu took office.
He previously worked at Immigration for 14 years, before he was fired from his job during the former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.
Shamaan’s dismissal from the role of Controller General of Immigration came as a surprise to many, as he gained praise for a crackdown on illegal immigration – a longstanding issue in the Maldives.
