The Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) President and Dh. Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed on Saturday has said that while several successful initiatives on enhancing gender equality have been carried, more work still needs to be done to further strengthen equality.
In commemoration of the International Women’s Day, Siyam issued a statement in which he had extended praise and greetings to the female members of MDA and the women of Maldives.
Siyam noted that the on this day, the contributions and hard work of women in serving their nation should be acknowledged and praised.
While highlighting the successful strides made in achieving equal opportunities, Siyam stressed the importance of more initiatives for further enhancement of equality.
“This is crucial especially to eliminate gender discrimination, and to stop abuse and violence against women,” Siyam said in his statement.
He viewed increasing opportunities for women in political field was a significant step in ridding violence against them and enhancing equal opportunities.
“Since it is difficult for women to seek professional opportunities in the executive, legislative, and judiciary bodies, we must prioritize in enhancing the equal involvement and contribution of women,” he added.
Siyam concluded his statement by extending continued prosperity and success for the women of the Maldives.
