MNDF’s Coastguard has assisted a speedboat with a large number of passengers, taking in water off K. Thilafushi.
According to MNDF, 'Souvenir 34’ began taking in water after being damaged.
A total of 38 people were aboard the vessel at that time, added MNDF. They included 24 passengers and four crew members.
MNDF confirmed that the speedboat was brought to Thilafushi at 14:00pm with the assistance of Male’ Area Command’s Coastguard’s Second Squadron.
They noted that no injuries were reported in the incident.
Notably, 48 people, including four children, were rescued after the speedboat they were traveling on sank off the coast of ADh. Dhigurah on Sunday morning.
In a post on X, the police said that the speedboat ‘Huvafen’ was travelling from Dhigurah to Male’ City with 45 passengers and three crew members when it sank.
The police received reports of the incident at around 07:57 am Sunday.
The incidents come as Maldives experience severe weather conditions.
