Parliament has announced it will reconvene for the first sitting of the year on February 6th following a two-month recess.
Parliament Secretariate, on Thursday, said Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has decided to hold this the first sitting of the first session of this year at 9:00am on February 6th.
The presidential address is always delivered at the first sitting of the year. It outlines the current state of the nation and the government's policies and plans to enhance its condition.
This year’s presidential address will mark the first delivered by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the 20th parliamentary assembly.
He had delivered his first presidential address after assuming office last year in February at the 19th parliamentary assembly.
Notably, the Parliament is scheduled to hold extraordinary sittings out of session on January 16th and January 20th during the recess period. This is for the purpose of electing members to vacant seats in independent institutions according to Parliament’s majority leader Ibrahim Falah.
