Authorities confiscate suspended MWSC deputy MD’s phone

Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, the deputy managing director of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), and the brother of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed – the managing director of HDC.

Maldives Police Service has confiscated the phone of Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, the deputy managing director of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).

Fazeel is currently suspended from his duties after documents that showed he had received land under ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme leaked. The deputy managing director of MWSC, also the elder brother of Housing Development Corporation’s (HDC) former Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, was initially listed as ineligible.

MWSC said it suspended Fazeel to cooperate with the investigation led by police. The law enforcement authority confiscated his phone as part of this investigation as well.

Fazeel’s name was listed in the recipients list published in August last year, but he was categorized as ineligible since he was a recipient of a previous social housing scheme.

‘Sun’ online received documents from a credible source confirming Fazeel had received land under the scheme, which included a inquiry letter sent from HDC to the Ministry of Housing after the corporation discovered the plot issued to him had been issued to someone else.

In response, the ministry’s letter stated that the land in question had not been issued to anyone by the ministry before.

Earlier, HDC’s Managing Director stepped down from his role stating he made the decision to cooperate with the authorities.
