Moosa Rimzee, 30, New Life, the son of the middle-aged woman from N. Holhudhoo who was found dead in her home in September with severe neck wounds who was arrested last Thursday in connection to a separate case of violence, has been released from custody.
Maldives Police Service, in a message to the media on Tuesday, said Rimzee was released when he was presented before the court for a remand hearing. However, it was noted that the court had granted him conditional release.
As per the Police, the altercation broke out over a disagreement. Sun has learned that the disagreement was over things that were said regarding Zakiyya’s death.
The altercation is under investigation by the Police.
Zakiyya Moosa, 50, was found dead on the ground inside the storeroom of her home New Life on the morning of September 10, with a knife beside her body. Some in Holhudhoo believe she was killed, and held a rally last urging the police to speed up the investigation and provide closure to the grieving family.
However, speaking at a press briefing on December 3rd, Head of Death and Homicide Investigation Unit, Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Samih the investigation has not uncovered any evidence of foul play in Zakiyya’s death.
