Maldives FM thanks outgoing India envoy for ‘instrumental role’ in advancing ties

Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel conveyed his appreciation to Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahwar on Wednesday, with the latter set to leave Male’ soon following the conclusion of his tenure.

Mahawar paid a farewell call on Khaleel at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Male’ on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Khaleel conveyed appreciation for Mahawar’s efforts to strengthening relations between Male’ and New Delhi.

Khaleel also credited Mahawar with playing an “instrumental role in advancing cooperation across multiple sectors including through enhancing connectivity, infrastructure development, and socio-economic development” under the Maldives-India partnership.

Mahawar, in turn, thanked Khaleel and the team at the Maldivian Foreign Ministry for their constant support.

Mahawar said that the special relationship between Maldives and India has witnessed huge progress in recent years and brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries.

He added that India looks forward to continue working closely together for the realization of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a comprehensive economic and maritime security partnership between Maldives and India.

Mahawar assumed the role of India’s top envoy in the Maldives in November 2021.

He had weathered the role through some of the most turbulent times in relations between Male’ and New Delhi.

G. Balasubramanian, who the Indian External Affairs Ministry named as Mahawar’s replacement earlier this week, will step into his new role as Maldives and India repairs and seeks to reinforce historic cultural and economic times.
