Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (ACP) Mohamed Asif has been suspended over a case under investigation by Maldives Correctional Service.
Corrections told Sun that Asif was suspended on Thursday in connection to a case under investigation by the authority, adding no further information regarding the case can be shared at this time.
A local online news outlet has previously reported that a case involving Asif had come to light in July which allegedly saw MVR 200,000 from Prisons Club account transferred to various other accounts linked to him in some way.
‘Dhauru’ reported that Corrections staff made several accusations against Asif and requested an investigation in this trajectory.
Asif was appointed ACP in September 2019. Prior to this, he was serving as the Superintendent of Male’ Prison.
