Dharavandhoo, a picturesque island located in Baa Atoll, is set to unveil its ‘Visit Dharavandhoo Year 2025’ campaign at 09:00 pm on Thursday – seeking to make 2025 the year the island becomes a top-of-the-mind local tourism destination in the Maldives.
The campaign is a component of the Dharavandhoo Council’s 2022-2026 developmental plan for the island. In 2025, the council plans to promote the island as a local tourism destination, increase its visibility, and boost visitor numbers.
On Thursday night, the council will unveil this campaign.
Ali Sameeh, the president of the Dharavandhoo Council, said that the ‘Visit Dharavandhoo Year 2025’ is a unique campaign, marking the first time for an island to designate a year and run such a large-scale promotional campaign.
Sameeh said the campaign will not end with 2025, but marks the beginning of multiple initiatives formulated under a special plan that will continue for the next five years.
In addition to the island’s residents, invites for Thursday’s ceremony have been extended to many relevant individuals. The council, together with the island’s guesthouses, institutions, school and residents, have made preparations to make it a night to remember.
Dharavandhoo, with a population of some 1,222 people, is located in the Baa Atoll, which is home to 15 resort islands. This makes the airport in Dharavandhoo one of the country’s busiest domestic airports.
The island also lies near some of the best diving spots in the Maldives, including the Hanifaru Bay, the Dharavandhoo Kanmathi, and the Dharavandhoo Thila.
With 14 guesthouses and three dive centers, Dharavandhoo is ready to welcome visitors. The island plans to boost its facilities and make more developments as it marks ‘Visit Dharavandhoo Year 2025’.
The ‘Visit Dhsravandhoo Year 2025’ campaign’s unveiling ceremony at 09:00 pm Thursday will be broadcasted live on SSTV.
