The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the Prosecutor General's Office to press corruption charges against a former Fenaka Corporation employee.
The employee in question, the former Assistant Manager of L. Gan, Mathimaradhoo Fenaka branch, Nasrulla Abdulla, is alleged to have awarded a project of the company to a business with his family's stake.
ACC has alleged Nasrulla abused his authority during his tenure as the Gan-Mathimaradhoo branch Assistant Manager, in 2019, when he awarded a contract to a company with shares of his relatives.
Nasrulla faces charges of abuse of authority to provide illicit benefit. ACC submitted the request to file charges against the former Fenaka employee earlier on September 29th.
The project, renovation of a nursery in Gan-Mathimaradhoo for the purpose of shifting all the utility branches in Gan under one roof, was contracted to a company named Maathundi Trade and Contracting Company Private Limited.
The project was awarded in violation of the corporation's procurement policies according to ACC, which said Nasrulla had contracted the project to a company with which he had conflict of interest. The commission also found that Nasrulla had submitted a request to Fenaka head office, for the final payment to the contractor despite the project was not completed.
ACC claims its investigation revealed Nasrulla had acted in his own interests instead of the employer.
