The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) on Sunday has publicized the list of 170 non-compliers for their failure to pay outstanding TGST and Green Tax as of 2024 second quarter end.

The list of non-payers were publicized in accordance to MIRA's 'name and shame' policy.

The authority also revealed TGST and Green Tax eligible taxpayers collectively owed over MVR 100,000,000 to the state.

The names non-compliers were publicized after extending them multiple chances to pay dues, including a deadline extension. The taxpayers were notified of via automatic reminder calls, seven days ahead of their payment deadline. The notices were extended these parties three ahead and three days after the deadline as well.

The parties were notified of stringent enforcement action via a notice 30 days after the deadline expiry.

MIRA further confirmed the parties were also provided with the opportunity to request for installment repayment plans if they were unable to pay total owed amount in lump sum. The authority also assured the parties that opted for this method would not face stringent enforcement measures.

The authority also noted it did not disclose the names of taxpayers that lodged complaints notifying the state their failure to pay taxes owed was due to not receiving payments the state owed to them.

MIRA further said it always worked on extending support to tax-compliant parties and improve their tax compliance. MIRA sent out 44,390 SMS, 22,761 phone calls, and 30,550 notices all reminding tax payers to pay outstanding tax dues.

The authority has also extended instalment options to 397 parties that requested the option.

MIRA urged all tax eligible entities to commit to paying their tax dues before the deadlines.
