President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Wednesday, traveled to Bangalore as part of his ongoing state visit to neighboring India.
President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed received a warm welcome upon their arrival at the southern Indian city. The welcoming delegation also included the Indian Ambassador to the Maldives Munu Mahawar.
The President’s state visit to India is at the invitation of his Indian counterpart, Droupadi Murmu.
He had traveled to Mumbai on Tuesday as part of the trip during which he participated India-Maldives Business Forum aimed at promoting investment opportunities in the Maldives. He also attended a tourism promotion event which was also attended by Indian movie stars and influencers.
During the trip, he met with President Dropadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi and other top Indian government officials, headed bilateral talks, oversaw the exchange of a USD 400 million currency swap agreement, and also attended an India-Maldives Business Forum.
He also invited PM Modi to make a state visit to the Maldives next year, which will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between Male’ and Delhi. The Indian External Affairs Ministry has confirmed that PM Modi accepted the invitation, but did not provide a specific date.
President Muizzu is set to conclude the visit and return to Male’ on Thursday.
