Charges sought against three in knifepoint robbery

The police have asked the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to file criminal charges against three people for stripping a man naked at knifepoint and then beating and robbing him.

The incident took place at Masfan, a house located in the Machangolhi district of Male’ City, on July 24.

The suspects are accused of luring him into the house, after which they snatched his mobile phone, forced him to transfer the money in his bank account, and using his bank card to withdraw money from an ATM.

The suspects arrested in the case are:

• Shafeeq Ibrahim, 35, Soma, S. Hithadhoo
• Mohamed Rehan, 27, Ma. Masfan, K. Male’
• Aishath, 43, Ma. Masfan, K. Male’

In a statement on Monday, the police said they wrapped up the investigation into the case and filed a request with the PGO for criminal charges against the three on September 9.

The three are jailed pending the outcome of their trial.
