Govt inaugurates ‘Isvaru’ to revive the spirit of nationalism

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated the “Dhivehi Gaumiyyathuge Isvaru” – a council which will act as a crucial organ in system aimed at revival of nationalism.

The “Dhivehi Gaumiyyathuge Isvaru” was inaugurated during the official function held on Wednesday morning to celebrate Maldives’ National Day.

This council is focused of five key areas: Dhivehi language, history, heritage, digitalization, and traditional professions.

The members of this council are:

• Mariyam Thafeeqa (Dhivehi language)
• Ahmed ‘Kashima’ Shakir (Maldivian history)
• Hassan Zareer (Maldivian heritage)
• Mohamed Abdul Gadir (digitalization)
• Mariyam Isha Azeez (Maldivian traditional professions)

Speaking at the National Day function, Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim said that the word “isvaru” symbolizes the services of the country’s national heroes. He said that there is a keen interest among Maldivians for Maldivian history and identity.

Naseer said that the days ahead are promising for Maldivian nationalism. He also praised and thanked President Muizzu for his dedication to reviving the spirit of nationalism.

“Someone once told me that they are waiting for a president who will revive Maldivian nationalism and identity. President Muizzu is such a leader,” he said.

The National Day function was attended by cabinet ministers and other state and government officials.

National Day, celebrated annually on the first of Rabi’ al-Awwal, serves as a solemn reminder of the valiant efforts of national hero al-Sultan al-Ghaazee Muhammad Thakurufaanu al-A’uzam in liberating the Maldives from Portuguese rule.

This day is a tribute to the resilience and sacrifice that underpin the nation’s independence.
