Maldives Police Service have begun investigations into fake reports bearing Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) name making the rounds.

Police on Tuesday said ACC has lodged requesting to investigate these doctored reports.

ACC has confirmed the reports in question bear the logo and formatting of the commission, and shared on social media platforms with claims that it belongs to the commission, are forgeries.

“The commission is deeply concerned by these attempts to mislead the public, and we strongly condemn this act,” ACC said.

While ACC has requested police investigate these fake reports, the law enforcement authority is looking into its own forged report issue as well. Police on Tuesday said that the report purporting to a supposed investigation it carried on the unlawful court warrant issued for the arrest of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, was in fact a forgery.

Police had discovered the document header on the alleged report differed from the authority’s standard header, and the purported signature of then Acting Commissioner, Abdulla Nawaz, is actually that of Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner, Ahmed Shifan’s.

The authority added that it has begun looking into matter and is treating it as a serious case.
