The price of lime in the Male’ market has dropped to MVR 65 per kilo.

The drop in the price of lime comes after it rose sharply to MVR 140 per kilo the past two weeks.

A market vendor told Sun on Saturday that a kilo of lime is now available for MVR 65 – closer to the range of MVR 50-60 it was commonly available for prior to the recent hike.

It the last few weeks, the price of lime rose from MVR 60 to MVR 70 to MVR 80, and to MVR 140 last week.

Vendors attribute the rise in prices to a shortage in supply of limes due to bad weather conditions which held up shipments.

While the price of lime has now dropped, the price of chilis remains high at over MVR 180 per kilo.

The recent spike in chili prices comes after it rose to as high as MVR 680 per kilo earlier this year.
