Woman who used knife in mugging remanded for 10 days

A young woman who threatened an individual with a knife and stole a mobile phone in a mugging in Male’ City has been remanded in custody of the police.

Shana Mohamed Junaid, 26, Buruniyaage, GDh. Vaadhoo, was arrested by the police on Thursday.

She was presented before the Criminal Court for her remand hearing on Friday.

Shana, who is accused of the use of a sharp-edged weapon in the provision of a robbery, denied the allegation against her.

But the court found the evidence submitted against her, including the incident report by police who attended to the crime scene, sufficient to warrant her detention.

The court remanded her in custody of the police for 10 days, citing that she poses a threat to society.

The remand period expires on September 2.

Court documents show the mugging did not result in any injuries, and the phone stolen in the incident was returned to its rightful owner by another individual.
