Adam Rameez, who was suspended from his post as a minister at the President’s Office back in June, has been dismissed.

Rameez, during his time at Male’ City Council, was observed as a close aide of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who had been the mayor at that time. He was suspended from his post over an undisclosed issue on June 27th.

On Thursday, the President’s Office’s chief spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed to Sun that Rameez had been dismissed from the post. However, she did not disclose the reason behind his dismissal.

His former wife, Shamnaz Saleem, who was serving as a state minister at the Environment Ministry, was also suspended alongside him back in June.

Shamnaz was suspended following her arrest on suspicions of casting black magic on President Muizzu. She and her younger sibling who was arrested later in connection to the case, were released on July 23rd.

On Wednesday, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) announced their decision not to press charges against Shamnaz and her younger brother, citing lack of evidence.

In the early days of the current administration, Rameez had been observed as a close aide of President Muizzu. He later disappeared from the spotlight.

Notably, Rameez was investigated for possible misconduct by PPM after he came under fire for secretly campaigning for then-mayor Muizzu for September’s presidential election instead of PPM’s official candidate former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who had been in prison back then. He left the party amid the allegations. This was before President Muizzu was awarded PPM-PNC coalition's presidential ticket and Yameen's disqualification from contesting the election.
