Maldives Immigration on Wednesday evening reported detaining 7 expatriates while subsequently closing four salons that operated illegally.

The recent detentions are the most recent in Immigration's crackdown against illegal immigrants and expats running businesses illegally.

The authority inspected six different saloons during their Wednesday inspection, Immigration confirmed in a post on X.

Under their ongoing inspections, Immigration specifically targeted takeaway outlets on Wednesday. Immigration inspected seven of these places and arrested seven illegal foreigners.

Through the ongoing crackdown, Immigration has already deported more than 2,000 expatriates, with several others in detention awaiting deportation.

Earlier, Immigration launched an online whistleblower/reporting platform called "Immigration Watch," allowing members of the public to report on illegal immigrants.
