Aasandha, the state-initiated health insurance scheme, reported spending MVR 823 million to provide services in 2024 second quarter.
According to Aasandha Company, this is an 11.5 percent increase from the MVR 738 million spent in the corresponding quarter in 2023.
The number of people who acquired Aasandha scheme's services also saw an increase during the review quarter. A total of 265,059 received services during this year's second quarter, compared to the 260,725 in Q2 last year.
There were a total of 1,232 emergency evacuations, and another 2,807 people acquired services abroad.
The Maldives government allocated a total of MVR 1.99 billion for Aasandha scheme this year. However, the issue of the Aasandha scheme exceeding its annual budget every year is a prevalent concern.
