Action warned over non-payment of rent for housing units despite 20 percent reduction

Housing Ministry, on Sunday, has warned action against owners who still fail to pay rent for housing units developed in Male’ area and atolls despite the reduction of rent by 20 percent.

In a statement, the Ministry said owners of the housing units were instructed to regularly settle the monthly rent payment in accordance with the regulations starting from January 1st following the deduction.

Housing Ministry, underscoring some owners have still failed to regularly settle the monthly rent payments, urged the owners to regularly settle the monthly rent payments.

The Ministry, in their statement, also noted that they were closely monitoring the utilization of the housing units for purposes other than what is allowed, unpermitted changes to the properties, non-payment of monthly rent and leasing the units to third parties. They warned action against owners of the units that are found in violation of the regulations.

The government has previously forgiven the fines incurred for non-payment of rent.

The rent of various housing units developed in Male’ area and atolls was reduced in line with the pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
