Police have denied media reports that officers broke down the door of a bathroom and barged in on a naked woman in a raid on a private residence in the Hithadhoo district of Addu City.

In a press statement on Wednesday, police said that they conducted a court-sanctioned search operation on an apartment in Hithadhoo the previous day.

The police said that officers had used force to enter the apartment after repeated requests to open the door went unanswered.

The police also used force to enter two bedrooms at the apartment following refusal to open the door despite repeated requests.

“There was a woman in one of the rooms who had just entered after taking a bath. The police closed the door and gave her time to exit the room,” reads the statement.

The police said that officers did not break down the door of a bathroom, and nor were any of the officers involved in the operation wearing bodycams.

The police said that they will be conducting a review of the use of force in the operation in accordance with set protocols.
