President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has praised the contributions of the late Abdul Latheef Hussain Manik (Athama Abdul Latheef).
The pioneer businessman passed away on Monday afternoon. He was aged 94 and passed away amid treatment at ADK Hospital.
In a post on X, President Muizzu said he received news of Abdul Latheef's demise with great sorrow.
President Muizzu acknowledged Abdul Latheef's contributions to the corporate sector of the Maldives and led several community-empowerment initiatives, such as development of mosques and fund pilgrims attend Hajj.
Muizzu praised Abdul Latheef as a prominent philanthropist, noting he had earned the public's respect as well.
"The late Abdul Latheef Hussain had been a prominent figure in the Maldivian entrepreneurial community and is an inspiration for others, who pioneered several contemporary elements to commerce." President Muizzu said.
President Muizzu highlighted Abdul Latheef's contributions to the community and his commitment to boost enthusiasm for the Islamic faith.
Abdul Latheef is also a National Award recipient for his humanitarian efforts.
Muizzu said the country had lost one of its greatest entrepreneurial leaders, who had inspired generations of entrepreneurs.
The late Abdul Latheef, married four times, is survived by nine children: five sons and four women.
