A warm croissant stuffed with a cold Magnum ice cream bar, the global viral dessert giving Maldivian businesses a little seasonal boost.
Maldivians have always embraced new food trends, especially sweet ones, but this time, social media and shops across the country are buzzing over a different kind of dessert craze: the croissant-Magnum combo, a warm croissant stuffed with a cold Magnum ice cream bar.
The trend has sent demand for both Magnum ice cream and croissants soaring in the domestic market. Two items that were already popular on their own have now become the most talked-about fusion treat in the Maldives.
The craze took off after a video posted on August 5 by TikTok food-content creator Ibrahim Saneeh (Sanna). His clip demonstrating the croissant-Magnum combination quickly went viral, sparking thousands of recreations and reviews across TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
Before reaching the Maldives, the trend had already gained global traction, with similar videos circulating internationally. But its arrival here has created a noticeable spike in demand, even in the atolls.
According to Sun, businesses importing Magnums and croissants in Male' have reported a sharp increase in sales.
“There has been very good demand in the last two weeks, more than the usual monthly purchases so far this August,” said a Maldivian businessman who supplies a wide range of croissants and Magnums.
Shops in major islands have also noted the surge, with some outlets running out of stock and placing urgent restock orders.
Social media influencers and everyday customers are experimenting with the trend and sharing their reactions online, describing it as a “mouth-watering” and “unique” dessert experience. The croissant-Magnum combo has quickly become one of the most sought-after sweet treats in the country.
With videos continuing to spread and businesses capitalising on the craze, the croissant-Magnum trend has now firmly taken hold across the Maldives, from Male' to the atolls, becoming the latest viral dessert sensation.
