Dhivehi Bahuge Academy (DBA), on Sunday, has begun a book exhibition under the name ‘Fenda Mauraz 2024’ in conjunction with National Writers’ Day.
The book exhibition, which is being held at DBA, was inaugurated by the recipient of the Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzudheen, Abbas Ibrahim.
DBA is collaborating with Liyuntheringe Gulhun, an organization that promotes Dhivehi Literature, for the exhibition.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, DBA’s President Dr. Asharaf Abdul Raheem said the exhibition is focused on writers writing in Dhivehi language. In this regard, writers will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their books via the exhibition.
Ashraf also noted that books published by DBA will be available for purchase at the exhibition
Abbas also delivered remarks at the inauguration ceremony during which he expressed hope to see more readers among Maldivians. He described the exhibition as a part of the efforts being undertaken to realize this hope.
“This is the third time this exhibition is being held since the Academy’s president assumed office. As you may know, this is an era where online news and writings are abundant. But let me tell you, books will never cease to exist in spite of this. Book writers are also increasing. Book readers are also increasing,” he said.
Abaas added that the exhibition will serve as a huge encouragement for writers.
‘Fendaa Mauraz 2024’ will also feature books available at DBA’s shop including children’s books, historical books, literature books, stories, and novels.
DBA noted that books at the exhibition will be sold at a lower price than currently sold at DBA’s shop.
The exhibition is being held today and tomorrow, from 10:00am to 18:00pm.
