Govt. opens applications to participate in trade conference with China

The government has opened applications to participate in a trade and investment conference between Maldives and China’s Sichuan province.

An announcement by the Economic Ministry on the government gazette on Wednesday read that a six-member delegation from China’s Sichuan is scheduled to undertake an official visit to the Maldives in August.

The main purpose of the trip, as per the Ministry, is to hold discussions on strengthening trade and investment ties between the Maldives and Sichuan province. In this regard, the Ministry noted that the China (Sichuan) Maldives Trade and Investment Conference is slated for August 6th.

The Chinese delegation will be led by the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress’ Vice Chairperson, the Ministry underscored, adding representatives from various businesses from the Maldives will be arriving in the Maldives for the conference.

These businesses are involved in the following sectors:

  • Agriculture
  • Fruit and vegetable suppliers
  • Food production, processing, exporting and supplying
  • Consumer goods and wholesale
  • Tourism

Economic Ministry states participants of the conference will get the opportunity to interact and establish ties with Sichuan businesses.

Interested individuals and businesses have been instructed to submit their applications before 14:00pm on July 18th.

The current administration is undertaking significant efforts to strengthen economic ties with China.
