Three Thai women arrested from a spa in Male’ City last night on suspicion of prostitution have been remanded in custody for 15 days, while the Maldivian man arrested was granted conditional release.

The four suspects were arrested last night based on a tip received to Police Intelligence informing of a group of women using a spa based in Male’ City as a front for prostitution.

In a message to the media on Friday night, Police said the Maldivian man arrested was granted conditional release by the Criminal Court when brought before the Criminal Court for a remand hearing. However, the three Thai women were ordered in police custody for 15 days.

The latest arrests come as authorities investigate various establishments across the country, most commonly salons and massage parlors, used as fronts by prostitution rings.

Back in February, Home Minister Ali Ihusan said that the authorities had flagged 111 establishments involved in prostitution, from the Male’ area alone.
