Maldives National Party (MNP) has filed an official complaint with the authorities over recent spam messages making rounds bearing the party's name.
The party on Saturday, in an official statement confirmed the messages were not sent by them. MNP said the messages, sent by scammers to extort money, was tarnishing the party's name and condemned the act.
MNP said it was seeking legal recourse for an expedited solution on the issue.
Scams have been increasing significantly in the Maldives, while authorities have repeatedly cautioned the public against sharing sensitive information to suspicious contacts.
