National award recipient, Zaki, dies aged 68

Mohamed Zaki, who received a national award last year in recognition of over 47 years of public service, has died at the age of 68.

Zaki began public service on March 3, 1973.

He died in Male’ on Sunday.

His funeral prayer was held after Zuhr prayer on Monday, Masjid Zaid bin Saabit, located at the Hulhumale’ Cemetery.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu sent a message of condolence to the Zaki’s family, in a post on X on Monday afternoon.

Zaki retired from public service at the age of 65 years on October 28, 2020. He was working as a senior printing supervisor at the Department of Public Examinations at the time.

Zakir began his decades-long public service as a foreman at the CI Division of the Agriculture Ministry. He later worked as a peon at the Education Ministry, and the Educational Project Office. He went on to work as a printer, and then senior printer, at the Educational Development Center.

He later worked as a senior printer and printing supervisor at the Department of Public Examinations.

He received the National Award for Public Service last year.

A statement issued by the President’s Office regarding the receipt of the award noted that Zaki had a clean record during his decades-long public service, and was never questioned regarding a disciplinary matter, or any issues regarding his work.
