Young army officer in shark attack passes away

A young Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) officer undergoing training at L. Kadhdhoo passed away on Sunday from injuries sustained in a shark attack.

He had attended a training component in L. Maavah when he was attacked.

Lance Corporal Mohamed Zaidhan, from R. Ungoofaaru originally, was pronounced dead at 20:40hrs on Sunday evening while being treated for his wounds at L. Gan Regional Hospital.

'Sun' also learned Zaidhan was treated at the intesive care unit (ICU) of the regional hospital owing to the severity of his injuries, and had required blood transfusions.

There have been occasional shark attack cases reported across Maldives, though fatalities are seldom.
