Police have identified the drifting body discovered near Sinamale' Bridge as a 25-year-old Nepali woman.

Responding to a question by Sun on Thursday, Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan said the Police have not taken note of any suspicions regarding her death.

The family has been informed of her death, he noted, adding they have yet to decide on transporting her body back home.

Police earlier said it had received reports of a drifting corpse picked up by a passing vessel near the bridge, around 12:35hrs on last Saturday. The body was immediately transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

An official of the hospital corroborated that the drifter had been dead before arrival.

Notably, another death was reported from Male' City just last week, when a missing Maldivian man was discovered dead inside a Male' City apartment.

Two other bodies discovered in strange circumstances were also reported from Male' area in May; one of a Maldivian man inside an apartment in Bandeyri Koshi, a housing unit for military personnel, and one of a male expatriate inside a van parked in front of Hulhumale' cemetery.

Police have sent the body of the Maldivian man to India to conduct an autopsy.
