New academic year begins with 96,000 students

Following a lengthy break, the new academic year commenced on Sunday with a little over 96,000 students.

With bad weather conditions still prevalent across Maldives, the Ministry of Education had earlier announced that the school sessions will last only for three hours on the first three days of the new academic year. 

The ministry confirmed that a total of 40,300 girls and 42,700 boys will be attending to the schools across Maldives, out of which 17,000 students will be attending schools in Greater Male' Area.

Education Ministry further confirmed that over 13,000 students will be attending to grades from LKG to 12 in private schools - out of which 9,000 will attend to schools in Male' area.

The ministry's statistics also confirmed a total of 2,250 students will be enrolled to Grade 1 in Male' area, while 2,081 new enrollments were submitted for Greater Male' schools for other grades.

Additionally, 1,126 students have migrated to Male' area from the atolls, with over 1,000 shifting to different schools in the same area.

The ministry confirmed a total of 12,662 teachers and educators will be working across all the schools, which includes 10,729 local teachers and 1,933 foreign teachers.

Furthermore, 162 schools will operate under a single-academic shift basis with 55 other schools operating under a double-academic shift approach.

Besides this, satellite education will be provided from six schools, which includes Fehendhoo, Fulhadhoo, Kondey, Rakeedhoo, V. Thinadhoo, and ADh. Dhidhdhoo schools.
