Bochey: South Maafanu’s army of youth with me

Abdulla Rifaau (Bochey) who is contesting the upcoming parliamentary election on main ruling PNC’s ticket states that the whole of Male’ City’s South Maafanu constituency’s army of youth is with him.

Speaking at an event to launch his campaign on Monday night – Bochey said leading supporters of main opposition MDP has endorsed him as well.

“MDP, in recent times, have labelled this constituency as ‘City Hotaa’ area. Something that brings me great honor tonight is the fact that City Kanmathi, from City Hotaa area, has endorsed me. Something which brings me great joy,” he said.

Bochey’s campaign launching event was honored by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.

The PNC candidate entered politics through former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s People’s Alliance (PA). He has previously served as the parliamentarian for South Maafanu constituency on PPM’s ticket.

Later on, he signed to DRP and worked closely with then-leader of the party, Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir.

He was elected the party’s deputy leader in July 2019. Bochey was also appointed the CEO of Jabir’s Yacht Tours Group’s subsidiaries during this time.

He resigned from DRP and the Yacht Tours’ subsidiaries on November 16, 2020, and rejoined PPM, PNC’s coalition partner.
