Parliament, on Wednesday, approved a salary hike for councilors, judges and heads and members of independent institutions.
A salary hike for president, vice president, ministers and parliament members was initially proposed when the salaries set by the parliament under Article 102 of the constitution were reviewed – sparking public outrage.
However, when the report by the Parliament’s Budget Committee on the matter was submitted to the floor on Wednesday – the salary hike for the president, vice president, ministers and parliament members was omitted. Presenting the report, Dhaandhoo MP Yaugoob Abdulla announced the decision to increase the salaries of judicial staff as well.
