Maldivian embassy established at Türkiye

A Maldivian embassy was established in Ankara, Türkiye on Tuesday.

As per the President’s Office, “The Embassy of Maldives in Ankara, Türkiye” was instituted by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in line with the authority conferred upon him by Article 116 of the Maldivian constitution.

It was established for the purpose of enhancing bilateral relations and promoting the political, economic, and cultural ties between the two countries.

The embassy will be administratively overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A directive issued by the President's Office outlined the work assigned to the Maldives Embassy in Türkiye.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Türkiye were established on May 28, 1979.

President Muizzu decided to establish a Maldivian Embassy at the recommendation of his cabinet on December 10th.

His first visit to the foreign nation after assuming office had been to Türkiye, during which he had met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

He also met with the Maldivian community residing in Türkiye at which he affirmed to hold discussions regarding the establishment of a Maldivian embassy in the nation.
