Yellow alert for seven atolls till 6pm

Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has issued a yellow alert for seven atolls in central Maldives till 6:00pm.

The yellow alert, effective from 2:30pm till 6:00pm, was issued from Kaafu Atoll to Dhaalu Atoll.

As per the Office, torrential rain and thunderstorms are expected in the region during this timeframe, alongside gusts of wind up to 45 meters per hour and rough seas.

Numerous Maldivian islands have been experiencing torrential rain since early Friday morning.

The rain resulted in the streets of capital Male’ City being flooded. Subsequently, MNDF soldiers have been deployed to drain the floods. The soldiers, working alongside police, are also working to stack sandbags at entrances of buildings to prevent flood water from seeping in.
