The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has warned that the weather is expected to deteriorate towards the end of the school holidays, advising travellers to exercise caution.

MET says light rain is expected across various parts of the country on Sunday and Monday.

However, conditions are forecast to worsen nationwide later in the week. Heavy rain is expected from the 28th to the 31st of this month, according to the weather office.

“It is showing rain across the country, with strong winds and periods of heavy showers. Those returning from holidays should be very careful,” an official said.

Sea accidents have occurred in the past during periods of rough weather and strong winds.

The national meteorological agency and other authorities continue to urge seafarers to remain vigilant whenever adverse weather conditions are forecast, as marine incidents occur from time to time.
