Municipal services transferred from HDC to Male’ City Council

Finance Ministry, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Male’ City Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to transfer the municipal services provided by HDC in Hulhumale’ to the Male’ City Council.

The MoU was signed by Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq, HDC’s Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed and Deputy Mayor Ahmed Nareesh.

In a statement following the signing, Finance Ministry said that under the MoU, HDC will cease the provision of municipal services provided under the Decentralization Act within one month, starting Thursday.

It was also agreed that the HDC will provide work sites and stamps needed for the provision of the services to the Male’ City Council free of charge for the next 12 months.

After that, the services will be provided directly by the city council, said the Finance Ministry.

Finance Ministry said the MoU also covers the sharing of employees, land, buildings, vehicles, tools and equipment used by HDC to provide the services.

The transfer of all municipal services to the city council had been one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s electoral pledges – something which he promised to deliver on within the first 100 days in office.
