Owner reports MVR 10M in losses in South Line sinking

The sinking of the cargo boat ‘South Line’ off GA. Nilandhoo on Sunday resulted in MVR 10 million in losses, estimates the boat’s owner.

South Line ran aground on the reef off Nilandhoo at around 08:15 pm on Sunday.

The boat’s owner told Sun that the boat sustained extensive damages in the incident, and later sank, with the cargo.

He estimates the boat and the cargo was worth around MVR 10 million.

According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the boat was towed to Nilandhoo at around 03:19 am.

The boat had been travelling with 11 crew members when the incident took place. There were no reports of any injuries.
