Schools close for holidays after conclusion of first term

Schools closed on Thursday for holidays after the conclusion of the first term of the academic year 2023-2024.

The academic year commenced on August 6th with over 84,000 students nationwide.

The second term is set to commence on January 17th. Therewith, alongside government holidays, the students will be receiving a 16-day break.

156 schools are holding single-session this academic year under the government’s single-session policy for schools. Six schools are following the satellite education format.

The end of the first time comes at a time when the debate on shifting back the commencement of the academic new year to January continues to persist. 

The Maldivian society remains divided on the matter, however, the shift is an electoral pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
